    Description

WW1, Great War, Minty Devonshire Officer’s Visor Cap with brass buttons on the chin strap.
The Regiment landed in France shortly after the start of the war as part of the British Expeditionary Force. It served on the Western Front throughout the war. During the first battle of Ypres it lost 2/3 of its officers and 1/3 of other ranks. In May 1918 at the battle of Aisne it sustained equally heavy casualties.
It is rare to find a cloth cap over a century old without some moth nips. This Cap has several on the top rear off the cap and one on the visor ( pictured ).
The Devonshire Regiment was a line Infantry Regiment of the British Army that served in many wars and conflicts from 1685-1958 when it was combined with the Dorset Regiment to form the Devonshire & Dorset Regiment. In 2007 it was combined with a number of other Regiments to form a new large Regiment called, The Rifles.
